Once again I have made some cards for my friend Pam's Church's charities. The request this time was for Some Birthday cards and some Thank You cards. I did the Birthday cards first. Since they prefer to get 15 of each design, I try to keep them fairly simple. It still took me a lot of time to make 15!
I elected to make 5 each of 3 different color schemes. Those buying the cards are told that since these are handmade cards, there will be some variances.
For each of these panels, I used the Simon Says Stamp Geo Leaves stencil ssst121473, and three colors of Distress inks. I used brushes to apply the inks through the stencil, trying to blend them as I went along.
I like this stencil for Birthday cards, because it looks celebratory to me; sort of like leaf confetti.
I like using the small Make Art metal platform when I use stencils. The magnets hold my project in place very well.
This blend is one of my favorite Distress blends of all time: Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, and Wilted Violet.
Making these backgrounds was fun, easy and relaxing. I think backgrounds like this could be used for a variety of purposes.
I chose a color of mat for each blended panel and die cut the sentiment out of the same cardstock. The purple and blue sentiments are from So Silk cardstock, so they are shiny on their own. The orange one is from PTI cardstock, and looks very matte. Since this is a Birthday card, I wanted it to have a bit of a sparkle, so I colored over the sentiment with a Wink of Stella clear glitter pen.

Yeah, 15 of one design is a lot. I usually make 4 of each card. I've got the larger metal platform and you're right, it's great for stencils. Wonderful cards, as always. I just LOVE SO Silk paper! I am curious about when you make cards for them, as you're making just the fronts. When they put them on the backs are there any white parts showing from the card itself? Or your card sticks over it? When I make cards I trim the folded card first and work out from there, so I was wondering how it worked going the other direction. From Laura P
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! Yes the most of any one design I usually make is 10. I try to make 10 Christmas cards each month until I feel I have enough, so that I will have them all finished before Fall and the start of the holidays (yeah I'm already behind). I also love So Silk paper, and try to make sure I always have a supply of all of the colors! Good question about these cards for the Church charity. The card bases that they make have information printed on them about the charity. Their bases are the same size as the ones I always make, which (after folding) are 5.5" x 4.25". I always make sure that my panels with mat are smaller than that, so that a bit of the white will show when the panels are mounted on them, and my panels are not too big for them. Whenever I use the largest die in the Crimped Frame die set (which is very often lol), it cuts my panel to 5.25" x 4". I then cut the mat to 5 3/8" x 4 1/8". That leaves about as much white of the base card showing as mat.
DeleteThanks for all that information. Hey, I read that you can travel to Iceland if you're fully vaccinated. Thought of you when I read that. :-) From Laura P
