Distress Oxides: Heartfelt Sympathy

I have had to make a number of sympathy cards recently, and I always find them hard to make. It's easier to have some made in advance, but I never seem to. This card is another blended panel that I had already made and had in my stash.

The original panel was made by blending a lot of colors of Distress Oxides. Once the colors were blended, I stamped this lovely Magenta Clover Silhouette image in Faded Jeans Distress Oxide. I think this stamp is really one of my very favorite stamps; it was designed by Magenta DT member Ellie Knoll. I really think that no matter what you do with it, it will look beautiful.

After stamping, I spritzed the entire panel with water and then speckled it with a little of the darker ink that I had put on my craft mat with some added water. I think that the water drops give it a more ethereal look.

I cut the panel out with the Die-namics MFT 846 Inside/Outside Stitched Ovals. I adhered the oval to the top center of a white textured cardstock that was cut using the Die-namics MFT 463 Blueprints 13 stitched rectangle die that cuts the panel to 5.25" x 4"

I stamped the Impression Obsession sentiment onto the bottom of the white panel with Versafine Onyx Black ink, and the panel was matted with Stardream Blue Steele cardstock. I adhered the panel to a base card of 110# Neenah Solar White cardstock.

I love how this card turned out, and I almost always feel that way when I use this Clover Silhouette stamp! If you have not yet looked at my Distress Oxide Overview post, you can see it here. Smiling Heart

This is one of my favorite sentiment stamps, and also one of my favorite techniques, stencil stamping. You can see other posts using this technique here, here and here.  This post is on the Magenta blog today.

I covered a piece of watercolor cardstock with Distress inks Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet and Peacock Feathers. I sprayed the Laces stencil with water mixed with Perfect Pearls powder and placed the wet stencil onto the colored panel.

Once the panel had completely dried, I stamped the sentiment in the center and embossed it with White Diamond embossing powder. I cut a panel from white felted cardstock with the stitched rectangle die from the Die-namics MFT-463 Blueprints  13 die set. I then cut an oval opening using the Die-namics MFT-846 Inside & Outside Stitched Oval die set. I placed the resulting frame onto the stencil stamped panel.

Fly High Butterfly

For this alcohol ink card I thought I would try a different color of cardstock for the die-cut than just white. I like it, but I do think the white die-cuts are a beautiful contrast.

On Yupo paper, I dripped drops of alcohol ink and pounced with a blending tool covered with felt. If you continue this until the ink starts to dry, you get smaller mottling. I covered both sides of the paper with color, because when the Yupo paper is mounted to the card, the back will show from the inside.

You can do something completely different on the other side if you wish. This side will show on the inside of the card.

I die cut the front of the base card using the MFT846 Inside/Outside Ovals.  I mounted the colored Yupo paper to the inside of the front cover of the base card.

I die-cut the Poppy Bellina Butterfly out of gold foil cardstock, with Stick-it adhesive on the back. I mounted the Bellina Butterfly die-cut onto the front of the card, tucking the bottom of the stem into the bottom of the oval opening.

I stamped the Magenta sentiment using Versafine Onyx Black ink and scattered a few sequins.

Elegant Christmas Shaker

This beautiful Elegant Ornaments stamp is perfect for a fun shaker card. This card is featured on the Magenta blog today.

I stamped the ornament stamp and sentiment onto a white card using Salty Ocean Distress ink. I had to split the sentiment into two lines to make it fit. This is not hard to do using a MISTI tool or stamp positioner.  I love the almost Delft pottery look of the ornaments in blue. I glued a few sequins to the panel so that even if the card is upright, there would be sequins showing toward the top of the window.

I die cut an oval into a panel of So Silk Fair Blue cardstock and used an embossing folder to create a nice textured pattern that mimics the ornament shapes. I added a piece of acetate to the back of the blue panel to cover the opening. I then used foam adhesive on the acetate around the oval opening, and added beads and sequins to the center. The stamped panel went over the foam tape to seal in the shaker material, and the whole panel was mounted on a white base card.
