Super Saturday at Magenta: Prismacolor Thinking of You

Hi everyone! I'm over at the Magenta blog today and you can visit the Magenta blog here.

Sorry it's been so long. It seems like it's been so busy around here! We are doing Spring cleaning and painting the Back Porch, and all sorts of things like that, you know? It seems like after re-doing my craft room and work space, we all just got the fever to clean things out. It almost seems like we are emerging from our cocoons. We are so hoping that soon things will seem a lot more normal around here.

I have a dear friend who died last August, and his husband's first birthday since his death is coming up this month. I thought a nice Thinking of you card would be more appropriate than commanding him to have a Happy Birthday, so this is the result.

I stamped the Magenta Mallow Flowers stamp onto a panel of Strathmore Tone Blue cardstock in white pigment ink, and started coloring using my favorite colors of Prismacolor pencils. This takes some time to do, but I enjoy it and find it relaxing, which I can really use these days!

The cardstock looks kind of gray in this photo, but the Blue Tone cardstock is a very pretty blue.

After coloring, I smudged a bit of the blue around the flower for some texture. I stamped the lovely Sally Penley calligraphy stamp Thinking of you at the bottom using Versafine Clair Paradise ink, and added a few gems.

I tried out a Caran d'Ache blender pencil this time and I think I like it. I need to use it more to be sure.

I thought about my friend who died the whole time I was making this card and I poured some of my love and grief into it. I do hope his husband will like it.

Super Saturday at Magenta: Blended Distress Background

Hi! I'm over at the Magenta blog today and you can see that post here.

Awhile back I made a lot of masked blends using Distress Ink. I had lost my mojo and this activity helped me get it back. You can see that post here. I really have used a lot of the backgrounds I made that day, and this is one of them.

This is a very simple, almost one layer card. I made the blended circle using the Magenta MC27 Round Mask stencil  and 3 colors of Distress ink.

I used brushes to blend the colors, and then flicked a little water on it to add speckles. I stamped the Magenta Tranquil Buds stamp into the circle, and added the Thinking of you sentiment (from the Magenta Sally Penley Calligraphy collection), at the bottom using Versafine Onyx Black ink. I cut my panel with The Greetery Crimped Frame die and matted it with a panel of So Silk Black Style cardstock. I added a few gems from Lucy's Little Things Rainbow Jewels.

Here are the other round blends I made that day, and I also made many other blends using different stencils, which have all come in handy.

Super Saturday at Magenta: Thinking of You

Hi! I'm over at the Magenta Blog today, and you can see that post here.

During this time of isolation, I have been enjoying making blended Distress backgrounds using blending brushes and stencils.

Magenta has a series of square and rectangle silhouette stencils developed by Nathalie that are perfect for adding a blended shape to your card. I especially like this square TM277 because it's a good size for blending several colors.

I placed the stencil onto a white panel, and taped it down with Post-it tape. I made sure that the tape covered the panel around the stencil.

This is the panel after I finished blending the colors. I then used GinaK Amalgam Jet Black ink to stamp the beautiful Clover Silhouette stamp, by Ellie Knol, and the also beautiful Thinking of You calligraphy stamp by Sally Penley.

I've made a number of backgrounds using the square stencils from Magenta, and I plan to use them in the coming weeks.

Magenta Super Saturday with Dianne - Thinking of You

As soon as I saw this great floral background stamp from Ellie Knol, I knew what I would do with it. It's the perfect size for the panels I usually use (about 3.75" x 5").

First I went through my stash of panels on which I had previously made some light colored backgrounds. Some time ago, I played around with floating alcohol ink onto water and putting different cardstock into it. Some of the backgrounds were bright, but some were very subtle and light.  You can see the post from this process here. The light backgrounds were the ones I was looking for to do these cards. The ones I chose were done on Tim Holtz watercolor cardstock, and I cut the panels with a Lawn Fawn LF768 Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables die to make them 3.75" x 5".

For the card above, I stamped the background onto the panel with Versamark ink and embossed it with JudiKins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder. It's very hard to get a photo of just how sparkly this card is, but here's a shot of it at an angle.

I added some color to the panel by painting with a little Worn Lipstick Distress ink. I stamped the sentiment onto some vellum with Versamark ink and embossed with WOW Metalline Red embossing powder, which is the closest color I could find to the pinks I was using.

I die cut a rectangle frame using the Memory Box 30082 Stitched Rectangle Trimmings die, which cuts thin frames, and mounted it onto the vellum. I got the idea for this from Jennifer McGuire. You can see her post here, where she uses vellum for her sentiments and mounts a thin frame around it. I love the look of this.

This card was so easy and fun to make, that I made a second one in blues. Since I thought it could possibly be a guy card, I embossed the background with clear embossing powder, rather than the sparkle.

On the blue card, I sponged and painted with Nuance, which gave me a more vibrant color than the Distress Ink on the pink card. The sentiment was stamped with Versafine Deep Lagoon ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.

This sentiment is one of Sally Penley's calligraphy stamps. Every single one of these stamps is so amazingly beautiful. I love the large selection of sentiments, and the array of sizes available.
