Magenta Card Exchange April - The Netherlands

This month I got to send a card to the Netherlands again. I have such fond memories of visiting that beautiful country, and would love to go back someday.

For this card I used a rectangular stencil and brushed Distress ink in Wild Honey from the lower left corner to the upper right, allowing the color to fade out at the upper right. I splattered the Distress ink with water to create some spots.

Once my panel had dried, I stamped the beautiful Clover Silhouette stamp in black. This stamp was designed by Elie Knoll, one of Magenta's talented Dutch Design Team members. Then also in black, I stamped the hello! sentiment, which is one of my favorites of the calligraphy stamps designed by the amazing Sally Penley for Magenta. Last, I stamped the  Zen Butterfly, which is a stamp I designed for Magenta. The butterfly was stamped with Versamark ink and embossed in gold.

I spattered some gold paint onto the panel, and I took an oblique photo of the card to show how shiny the gold is in real life. I die cut the panel using The Greetery Crimped Edge die, and matted it with gold cardstock, and then onto a base card.

This is the sneak peek shot I posted onto the Magenta Passion Studio. It shows how really gold and shiny the card is.

Card Exchange: Canada

In the Magenta March card exchange my card went to Canada this time.

I used one of my favorite Magenta stamps, Ornamental Onion Tile, but in a different way. Using Stonehenge black watercolor paper, I stamped the image with gold Delicata ink, and then used opaque metallic watercolors from Iuile to paint over the image. You can get her paints in half pans, as sets, or as dot cards. The dot cards have lots of paint on them, and are fun to experiment with.

I die cut the panel with The Greetery Nordic Frame die, and matted with gold cardstock. The gold mat peeks through the die cut panel and complements the gold in the image.

Although the paint is somewhat opaque, it blended well with the Delicata ink so that some of the gold showed through. I stamped the sentiment - one of Sally Penley's lovely calligraphy stamps made for Magenta - using Versamark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder.

Here is a very out of focus image of the card, but I was trying to capture how glittery this paint actually is. It's beautiful in real life. At the end, I flicked gold Fine-Tec watercolor all over.

Magenta Card Exchange February: California

Another month and another fun chard exchange! This month my card went to a participant in California.

In making this card, I was inspired by a post by Kristina Werner. You can see her post here. She was using glitter watercolors by Iuile Watercolors on Etsy. This young lady hand makes her own watercolors, and I have become a bit addicted to them. They are expensive, but she sells dot cards with fairly large dots of watercolor on them, so that you can try out her colors fairly inexpensively.

I used Stonehenge black watercolor paper, since the glitter colors show up much better on black. Even after watercoloring this image, I still had a lot of watercolor left for other projects.

Prior to watercoloring, I stamped and embossed this beautiful Magenta image (Flower in Square) in gold onto the watercolor cardstock.

Capturing the glitter on this project is very hard to do with a photograph, but it's pretty bling-y.
I set aside the image to dry and cut a panel of pink cardstock using The Greetery Crimped Frame die, and stamped the Magenta sentiment (Life is a Gift) at the bottom. I added some purple silk ribbon and mounted the watercolored panel over it. The entire panel was then mounted to a base card of 110# Neenah Solar White.

This is the sneak peek I showed on the FaceBook Magenta Passion Studio site. The glitter kind of shows up in this photo.

Magenta Card Exchange: Canada

My second card exchange partner finally got her card today, and it took only a week and a half to get to Canada, the same as to the Netherlands. My card to my Netherlands exchange partner is posted here.

The only rule was to use Magenta stamps or products. My Canadian exchange partner is Christine Alexander, who is another Magenta Design Team member. She is amazing! Be sure to check out her blog here.

I started out by masking a 1" strip across the bottom 1/3 of the card for a sentiment. Then I stamped the beautiful Magenta Floral Background in Hero Arts Unicorn White ink.

I colored the petals and leaves with Prismacolor pencils, and then put the panel back into the stamp platform and stamped with Versamark ink. I embossed it with silver embossing powder.

At the end I stamped the Magenta hello stamp that was designed by Sally Penley, into the space left by the masking. I added a few gems.

The card I received from Christine was amazing! It was like a little book where she had stamped several panels. You can see the card she sent me on her blog here.

Magenta Card Exchange: The Netherlands

My friend Mariëtte van Leeuwen, another Magenta DT member, had the great idea to start up a card exchange for those who love Magenta stamps. After calling for interested participants on FaceBook, she matched up partners to exchange cards. I was matched to one person in The Netherlands and one in Canada. I was afraid that my cards would take a really long time to get to The Netherlands especially. Lately it has taken my mail 6 weeks to two months to arrive in Iceland, and I thought it would be similar, but my card arrived to my partner Lizenka Schuijl Commandeur, in The Netherlands in only a week and a half.

This card was done by masking off a strip and blending Distress Ink, one of my favorite techniques. I then stamped the beautiful Clematis Vine stamp and embossed in gold. The hello stamp is from the Magenta Sally Penley collection. You can see other examples and more information using this technique here and here.

I had already received Lizenka's beautiful card days ago
